Malta Cruises

Cruises to Malta reveal the interesting history of this small Mediterranean island nation, which lies south of Sicily. In 1530, Charles V of Spain granted Malta to the Knights of the Order of St. John, and it later passed through French and British hands before gaining independence in the 1960s. Many of the 16th-century buildings and fortifications erected by the knights remain today.

When ships call at Valletta, the walled capital city, passengers can explore the Palace of the Grand Masters, the National Museum of Archaeology and St. John's Co-Cathedral, where many of the knights are buried. Or, travel to medieval Mdina, called the "Silent City" because traffic is limited in this charming old town.

  • Malta is featured on Western Mediterranean cruises. The Mediterranean cruise season lasts from late April to October, although a few ships cruise the region year-round.
