A harbor town on the South China coast, Shantou sits between two beautiful bridges, the Shantou Gulf Bridge and the Queshi Bridge. Offshore, the Nan Ao archipelago has both sandy subtropical beaches and a national forest park. One special granite outcropping has been named Lotus Peak for its resemblance to an opening lotus flower. Around Lotus peak, poets have carved odes to its beauty. The town itself has a monument marking the Tropic of Cancer, along with a city museum featuring relics of jade, wood and pottery.
