Delta Queen

For discounted sailings on the Delta Queen, click
This ship was completed in 1927, and it's now a National Historic Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places. Her interesting history includes a stint with the U.S. Navy, when she was painted military gray and used to carry troops to ships in San Francisco Bay during World War II. Now restored to her former splendor, the Delta Queen is a warm and intimate vessel with teak handrails, rich hardwood paneling, brass fittings and ornate filigree trim. The often-photographed Grand Staircase is crowned by a crystal chandelier. Gathering spots include the comfortable, wood-paneled Texas Lounge; the Betty Blake Lounge, a quiet retreat with paintings that depict the ship's history; and the Forward Cabin Lounge, a Victorian parlor boasting Tiffany-style stained glass windows and crystal chandeliers. Rocking chairs on deck are comfortable spots for watching the scenery roll by. All staterooms are outside cabins, featuring period furnishings and such touches as patchwork quilts and wood-shuttered windows.
