Having been ruled by the Germans, French and Swedish, the Hanseatic League city of Stralsund features masterpieces of North German Gothic brick architecture, as well as a great number of historical buildings partially surrounded by a well-preserved city wall. After leaving the city pier, you will pass historical storerooms on the harbor island. You will walk on the old town lanes to the market, where the historical city hall and the oldest parish church of the city, St. Nikolei, are located. The famous facade of the city hall from 1370 displays the coats of arms of all Hanseatic League cities. You can walk through the city to the new market, where you will find the impressive Marienkirche (Church of Mary).
