San Jose (Los Suenos), Costa Rica

Southwest from San Jose is the Pacific port town of Los Sueños on Herradura Bay. It sometimes serves as the Pacific port of departure for cruises from San Jose. Canopy tours, hiking and horseback riding are some of the best ways to enjoy the surrounding rain forest in Los Sueños. The Carara Biological Reserve sits along an area where dry forest and humid tropical rain forest meet; it's also home to a large population of rare scarlet macaws. In San Jose, shore excursions visit the opera house, the crafts village of Moravia and a privately owned ranch. Other activities here include a ride on the "banana train" to the banana-growing districts and a tour of a tropical flower farm.
