Lampi Island, Myanmar
Also known as Lanbi Kyun, Lampi Island is located in the Mergui Archipelago of Burma. Along with some of the surrounding islands, Lampi is home to the Lampi Marine National Park. This national park is the only one in Myanmar and it protects the rich biodiversity that the area has to offer. Among the globally-protected species found in the park are the Wallace’s hawk eagle, plain-pouched hornbill, loggerhead and green sea turtles, the sunda pangolin, and the dugong. In addition to protecting animal life, Lampi also protects evergreen and mangrove forests, coral reefs, beaches and dunes, and sea grasses. Local villages and sea gypsies are also known to make the area their home.
