The roofs on all the homes in Kodi are built at a higher peak than normal in order for the locals to reach their spirit gods. Every February the people of the region reenact the ancient practice of Pasola horseback fighting, a tournament similar to jousting that is part of a religious ceremony. Ancient Sumbanese villages are famous for their megalithic tombs and thatched houses. While Kodi is full of culture and history, it is recommended that tours stay with a guide, as the Kodi people have a reputation for lawlessness.
